Trending topics & saved searches

June 19, 2009, Filed under: Features — Tags: , — Nick Papanotas @ 6:45 pm

We’ve just added a new feature in Social Whale, trending topics and saved searches from twitter. Now whenever you click on the search input area, you will get your saved searches and the current trending topics.

Still there is more work to get done in this area, as we also want to offer “local trending topics” which is actually the trends for your timeline. In other words in the next update you will be able to see trending topics that the people you follow are talking about.

Social Whale alpha release

June 17, 2009, Filed under: Social Whale — Tags: , — Nick Papanotas @ 5:45 pm

We are very excited to announce the alpha testing release for the Social Whale service. During this testing period we will allow only a limited amount of users to use the service so if you want to participate just follow @SocialWhale at twitter, and we will send you an invitation the soonest possible.

This release aims to help us find and fix as many bugs as possible, and see how the application scales in production state. Still there are many features that are not implemented, but the service is full functional. If you are participating in this testing release please post any feedback to the social whale group, or send a dm to @SocialWhale.

April 30, 2009, Filed under: Social Whale — Tags: , , — Nick Papanotas @ 3:51 pm

Today we would like to share with you a new extension we’ve created for firefox, the social whale firefox extension. SWFE is a very simple extension that can help you post urls and images to twitter. The services we use to accomplish that are:

You can install the extension by clicking the download link from here. After that you will see social whale’s logo in the right bottom of your firefox browser that will look like this: (it is the icon in the middle)

The only thing you have to do before starting using the extension is adding your twitter credentials by right clicking the logo, and selecting the “account settings” tab.

Now that you have installed the extension you can shorten the active tab’s url by left clicking the social whale logo. Alternatively you can right click the logo and select “short url” or “short url with alias” if you want a custom alias for your shorten url.

To upload an image to twitpic right click the logo and then select “upload photo”.

The result url will be copied to the clipboard so you can paste it to your twitter client or anywhere else you need it.

If you have any problems or you want to give us suggestions for further development feel free to leave a comment below or send us a message in twitter (@SocialWhale, @thek27, @HumanWorks)

If you find this addon useful feel free to share it with your friends!
