New feature: Hashtag definitions

Today we’ve released a new feature, the hashtag definitions. Whenever there is a hashtag in your feed, there will be a little “info” icon which you can click and get more information about the hashtag (definition and statistics)

This feature is powered by what the hashtag, a service that is dedicated to provide more information about twitter hashtags.

Trending topics & saved searches

We’ve just added a new feature in Social Whale, trending topics and saved searches from twitter. Now whenever you click on the search input area, you will get your saved searches and the current trending topics.

Still there is more work to get done in this area, as we also want to offer “local trending topics” which is actually the trends for your timeline. In other words in the next update you will be able to see trending topics that the people you follow are talking about.

Introducing the social whale firefox extension

Today we would like to share with you a new extension we’ve created for firefox, the social whale firefox extension. SWFE is a very simple extension that can help you post urls and images to twitter. The services we use to accomplish that are:

Installation

You can install the extension by clicking the download link from here. After that you will see social whale’s logo in the right bottom of your firefox browser that will look like this: (it is the icon in the middle)

The only thing you have to do before starting using the extension is adding your twitter credentials by right clicking the logo, and selecting the “account settings” tab.

Usage

Now that you have installed the extension you can shorten the active tab’s url by left clicking the social whale logo. Alternatively you can right click the logo and select “short url” or “short url with alias” if you want a custom alias for your shorten url.

To upload an image to twitpic right click the logo and then select “upload photo”.

The result url will be copied to the clipboard so you can paste it to your twitter client or anywhere else you need it.
